The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus- Film Finds Buyer

It looks like The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Heath Ledger's final film, has found itself a stateside buyer according to Variety. Sony Pictures is in advanced talks to acquire the film and give it a theatrical release sometime this year.

"Parnassus" premiered at Cannes this year to remarkable reviews. The deal with Sony could be made official as early as this week. The film already has distributors in the U.K, France, Germany, Italy, as well as Australia and New Zealand. Looking forward to seeing it.
Heath Ledger sadly passed away during production last year, which temporarily halted the making of the film. Terry Gilliam, the film's director and Heath's friend, made some significant changes to the script, allowing Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, and Jude Law to step in and play Ledger’s part in various incarnations. When speaking about Heath at Comic-Con, Gilliam said, “He was an exceptional actor and human being. He was one of the greatest actors of his – and other – generations.”

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is about the immortal 1,000-year old Doctor Parnassus (Christopher Plummer), who leads a travelling theater troupe that offers audience members a chance to go beyond reality via a magical mirror. Joining him in his troupe are a sleight of hand expert (Andrew Garfield), a dwarf (Verne Troyer), and his daughter (Lily Cole). Parnassus has been granted immortality and other gifts thanks to a deal he made with the Devil (Tom Waits) for his daughter’s soul. When the Devil collects his due on the girl’s sixteenth birthday, though, the troupe – along with a mysterious outsider named Tony (Ledger) – embarks on a journey through parallel worlds to rescue her.
