Mel Gibson is reportedly in talks to star in Universal Pictures'
spy thriller "Cold Warrior." Shane Black is attached to direct the
film with Chuck Mondry providing the script. The film centers on a
spy from the Cold War era who comes out of retirement to team with
a younger agent from the new school to confront a domestic
terrorism threat orchestrated by Russia. It will be interesting to
see who will play the younger agent.
Shane has had a very successful career as a writer in Hollywood. He
penned all the Lethal Weapon films, The Last Boy Scout, The Long
Kiss Goodnight, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang among others. Kiss Kiss
Bang Bang is the only film he has directed so far. And it was a
great one. I think it's safe to say he'll do a rewrite on Mondry's
script (I certainly hope so anyways). Lethal Weapon 5 will most
likely get pushed back even further.
Although Edge of Darkness is opening this weekend, Cold Warrior
would represent the first major studio-backed project Mel's taken
on in quite some time due to a certain incident involving
alcohol.
